What is breadth UCR? ›

The breadth requirements include the following general areas of study: English composition, natural sciences/math, humanities, social sciences, ethnicity, and foreign language. Breadth requirements for the Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree differ from the breadth requirements for the Bachelor of Science degree.

Students may repeat up to 16 units of UC coursework in which they received a "D" or an "F" for the purposes of improving their UCR grade point average. Only the first 16 units of coursework that is later repeated will be excluded from the GPA.

In order to enroll, you will need to have taken the Mathematics Advisory Exam, or have another Math placement through AP/Transfer credit. Please visit placementtest.ucr.edu for more information on the placement test.

During initial enrollment, undergraduate students who are in good academic standing may register for a maximum of 17 units - students who are not in good standing may only register for up to 15 units. During makeup enrollment, the maximum units students in good standing may register for is increased to 20 units.

The aim of breadth requirements is to help students gain knowledge and understanding across a broader range of disciplines; it enables them to develop insight, experience, and new ways of thinking in areas distinct from their main fields of study.

Breadth classes are any courses that are NOT business classes or requirements.

Definition of Grades

The following grades are used: A — excellent; B — good; C — fair in undergraduate courses and minimum passing in courses for graduate credit; D — minimum passing in undergraduate courses; F — failed. In addition, plus and minus grades may be used, with the exceptions of A plus, F plus and F minus.

Academic Dismissal

You are subject to dismissal if your GPA earned during your probationary periods does not meet the minimum requirement of 2.0 for undergraduate students or 3.0 for graduate students.

The Consequences of Failing a Class

A failing grade will likely hurt your GPA (unless you took the course pass/fail), which could jeopardize your financial aid. The failure will end up on your college transcripts and could hurt your chances of getting into graduate school or graduating when you originally planned to.

Who is placed in a CNAS learning community? ›

A CNAS Learning Community (LC) is a small group of CNAS first-years with similar majors and interest, who take their math and science courses together throughout their entire first-year at UC Riverside. Our program reserves these courses for our participants, setting them on the right track for a 4-year graduation.

Students may select a second major within the College of HA&SS or a second major in a department or program of another college. Both majors must be completed within the maximum limit of 216 units and approval must be obtained from advisors in both departments or programs.

Admissions Criteria

A minimum of a 3.0 undergraduate GPA or B-equivalent (if GPA is not on a 4.0 scale). We recommend that you check with the graduate program as they may have a higher standard for their GPA requirements.

When a course is repeated, only the 2nd grade will be calculated into the GPA, but the first grade will remain on the transcript. Students have a maximum of 16-units (essentially 4 classes) of repeat for grade replacement. Grades in additional repeats thereafter will be averaged into the GPA.

A maximum of 216 units is allowed. After having credit for 216 units, students are not permitted to continue except in cases approved by the Associate Dean in which specific academic or professional reasons are involved.

Information Ratio Formula

Breadth is the number of investment decisions in a year.

The information coefficient (IC) is the correlation of the manager's forecast to actual returns. IC can range from -1, a completely incorrect forecast, to 1, a perfectly correct forecast. Breadth represents the number of trading opportunities an investor encounters per year.

A breadth subject is a subject from a different area of study to the degree that you are enrolled in.

Breadth (B) means the maximum breadth of the ship, measured amidships to the moulded line of the frame in a ship with a metal shell and to the outer surface of the hull in a ship with a shell of any other material. The breadth (B) shall be measured in metres.
