Apologies for being confusing, but perhaps I don't understand the system used for accompanied minors.
If you book an adult and then book a child on a separate PRN, you must link the two reservations before the WN system will allow the child's booking to be completed (or else you must pay the fee for an UNaccompanied minor). At T-24 hours, the adult and the child must be checked in separately and will not be automatically issued sequential boarding passes.

But--->
Perhaps I learned something from your question. If the adult and child are booked on the

same

PRN, then sequential boarding pass numbers would be issued. Is this correct?
I have always booked each person and each leg separately for maximum flexibility in rescheduling/ re-fareing etc.
In the future, I may just add the accompanied minor to my A+ reservation and then add my companion. Viola! THREE sequential A+ boarding pass numbers.

Thanks, FT, for teaching an old dog new tricks.

It’s working exactly this way right now. I book myself (a-list) and minor child in one PNR and then add my companion.

The A-List check in benefit only works for those on the same PNR as the a-list member.

My first experience with this for my flights tomorrow, myself plus two others on one PNR, my Companion on a separate PNR, I got the lowest boarding number, my Companion the next, and the two other people on my PNR the two following that, so for example on the first flight we are:

Me (A-List) -> A-51
Companion (separate PNR) -> A-52
First Other Passenger on my PNR -> A-53
Second Other Passenger on my PNR -> A-54

In a couple weeks I expect my wife will be getting CP for the rest of the year through the credit card offer which, so once that occurs, she will then have a Companion but not A-List, so I think I'll have to buy her Companion EBCI (our Companions are minors and are only 8/9 years old, so I can't really leave them to board by themselves and just save a seat).

Another data point here from this past weekend. Me (A-List), wife (no status), and my daughter (who is my wife'scompanion, not mine) all got sequential A-25'ish boarding passes on a few flights. I was a little surprised that my A list status carried over to the companion of someone else on my PNR. 👍

The test failed today. I got complacent and did not bother with T-24 check-in. One low A number (Companion has A-list) and one high B number (Primary has no status).

I added one EBCI to my reservation about 3 weeks ago when I was certain we were actually going to fly.

DP for return flight..........RSW/MSP 3/20/2021..............Companion pass holder purchased EBCI and received A-30, companion ( no EBCI) A-31..........flight was sold out flight at least a few days before departure.

For both flights we each picked a aisle seat in row 5.

Family of 5 on 3 different reservations (R/T FLL-BNA). Reservation #1 (3 people, two of which are companion pass holders). Reservation #2 is a companion. Reservation #3 is a companion. Checked in Reservation #1 first, followed by #2 and #3. We received consecutive boarding numbers both ways (b7-b11) and (b15-b19). No A-list or any other kind of status. EBCI wasn't purchased.

FYI: From what we've seen so far, one EBCI purchase for anyone on reservation #1 should garner all 5 people "EBCI positions." Possibly in the A group, but in any case presumably better than those you had.

Note that sequential Companion boarding isn't official yet, and it's possible that this might not be how it ends up working once announced.

Similar result for return flight. Low B for the non A-list CP primary. On our late February flights the non-A-list CP primary drew numbers adjacent to the A-list Companion.

In my case the CP holder was not the A-list member.

Me (A-List) on BS fare -> A-1 (checked in fourth)
Wife on BS fare on separate reservation -> A-4 (checked in third)
Wife's minor companion -> B-19 (checked in first)
My minor companion -> B-24 (checked in second)

So, it didn't work for my companion as it should have, because I was on a BS fare?

It didn't work for my wife's companion, which was not unexpected.

However, it does appear that A-List did check me in for BS, which I thought it did not do in the past (I got A-1 even though I checked my wife in first).

I had completely forgotten to post this before. An acquaintance from another board had been stupid offended that companions weren't 'on the same reservation' when his companion was assigned a much later position. He fired off an email of complaint, and got the above response in December. I think he believes that his email was the impetus for this change =)

It's early and I'm fuzzy, but I'm trying to repost this for the BS purchaser. I find it a little strange that BS is left out of this one, but so it goes.

Thanks, that is a little ridiculous. The reason we're on BS is it's one of those situations where the BS fare wasn't much more than the WGA fare, but this will certainly lessen the usefulness of buying those discounted BS fares in cases like this. Guess I'll be using all four of my credit card boarding upgrades on this trip.

Guess the computer programming was too difficult to make this work on BS fares? Southwest testing CP’s boarding together - FlyerTalk Forums (32)

This must still only apply to A-List members or selected rollout. My companion and I (neither A-List) got separate numbers today.
